Understanding our Endowment

While we have great cause to rejoice over the merits of Christ’s righteousness being imputed or accredited to us as a free gift by God’s grace, there is yet more to rejoice over grace than the imputation of His righteousness alone.   Paul wrote “How much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man. What is this “abundance of grace” Paul is speaking of?   It would appear it goes even beyond the scope of the “gift of righteousness” and indeed it does – far beyond.

The “abundance of grace” Paul makes reference to is the ENDOWMENT of the riches of spiritual blessings in Christ.  This endowment is also to be received by faith and is meant for all believers.   All of the fullness of God dwelt bodily in Christ Jesus and we have been given this fullness and through this spiritual endowment we are enriched with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ.   Jesus said, “When He the Spirit of Truth comes He will take from what is mine and make it known unto you.  ALL the Father has is mine.”  What an endowment this is!  Everything we need for life and godliness is contained in this endowment.   Our Father has made every provision for us.  We will never lack any spiritual grace.  This discovery will lead us to become unto the praise of this GLORIOUS grace as others see us abounding in every grace the Spirit is making known unto us.

This is what Paul labored so earnestly to have believers comprehend.  “I want you to know how great an agony I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining unto all riches of full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden ALL THE TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE.”  This is our endowment in Christ Jesus - every treasure of the wisdom and the knowledge of God.

Paul agonized for all believers to comprehend the spiritual endowment of every grace of God that has already been given to each of us in Christ Jesus.   Those who discover this endowment will never lack any grace again.  Their testimony becomes one that declares “my Father has made all grace to abound to me so that at all times I have all sufficiency to abound to every good work.”   Those who begin to comprehend this endowment know that it truly is “the abundance of grace.”   These believers are the ones who begin to reign in life through Christ because He has become to them the source of every spiritual blessing.  They never lack any grace again because Jesus Christ becomes to them the One who fills ALL in ALL!

May the Lord grant us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in this knowledge of Him so that we might receive the ABUNDANCE OF GRACE and begin to reign in life through the One man - Jesus Christ - the source of our spiritual endowment.   Even as we have received the merits of Christ’s righteousness, so let us press in to receive the abundance of grace found in the endowment of every spiritual blessing in Him.

Praise God our Heavenly Father for the gift of the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ.

Praise God our Heavenly Father for all the riches of our spiritual endowment in Jesus Christ.
